Huntsville International Airport Expresses Gratitude to Senator Richard Shelby for his Continued Support of Airport Infrastructure Improvements Across the State of Alabama
May 4, 2020
HUNTSVILLE, ALA.- Huntsville International Airport (HSV) applauds Senator Richard Shelby for his continued support of airport infrastructure improvements. The most recent Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) grants awarded by the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) will support improvements at 25 Alabama airports and total $60,999,054. The FAA grants are administered through Fiscal Year 2020 Airport Improvement Program (AIP) annual and supplemental awards. Additionally, funds provided through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act (CARES Act) serve as the local match for the airport improvement projects. The CARES Act designated $10 billion to airports across the nation and HSV is grateful to Senator Richard Shelby, Chairman of Senate Appropriations Committee, a lead negotiator with the Senate, House, and Administration for his unwavering leadership in the passage of that bipartisan legislation and his full dedication to strengthening our nation’s air transportation infrastructure as well.
“Senator Richard Shelby has always shown his support to Alabama airports, both commercial and general aviation”, said Rick Tucker, Huntsville International Airport CEO. “HSV is grateful to have his support and applauds the strong leadership that led to this investment in advancing airports in Alabama. Airports of all sizes across the state are economic drivers in their respective communities so this funding is essential and will be used to enhance aviation safety and security.”
Huntsville International Airport received $1,525,000 to acquire an aircraft rescue and firefighting vehicle and install security cameras and $23,374,511 to rehabilitate the 12,600 linear foot west runway and reconstruct the associated lighting. Other airports across the state and funding amounts are specified in the release from Senator Shelby’s office and can be accessed here:
