HUNTSVILLE, Ala., August 18, 2026 – Huntsville International Airport (HSV) set an all-time monthly passenger record in July, marking the busiest month in the airport’s history. HSV served 182,556 travelers during the month, an 8.5% year-over-year increase compared to July 2025, marking the first time the airport has surpassed the 180,000-passenger milestone. May 2026 now stands as the second-busiest month on record, with 173,748 passengers flying through HSV.
Airport officials attribute the record growth primarily to an expansion of nonstop flight options and increased seating capacity. Available seats in July rose 11.1% compared to July 2025. This growth was driven by Allegiant’s arrival last November, introducing four new nonstop routes: Fort Lauderdale (FLL), St. Petersburg/
Clearwater (PIE), Orlando/Sanford (SFB), and Gulf Shores (GUF), all within six months. Growth was further bolstered by Breeze Airways adding a Fort Lauderdale nonstop in June, and Delta Air Lines providing double-daily service to New York’s LaGuardia Airport (LGA).
“Huntsville travelers are benefiting from an elevated travel experience as our world-class airline partners introduce larger planes, increased flight frequencies, and new destinations at HSV,” said Joey Ceci, Huntsville International Airport Board Chair. “Key additions from trusted carriers, including Delta’s service to LaGuardia and expanded Orlando flights from Breeze, pushed passenger numbers to new heights and topped our highest previous month this year by more than 8,800 travelers.”
To accommodate this sustained growth, HSV is advancing several capital improvement projects. The airport is currently midway through a concourse refresh that has doubled food and beverage offerings, including the addition of a Starbucks, while upgrading restrooms, replacing carpet and gate seating, and installing smooth terrazzo flooring throughout the concourse. Construction is also underway on a $59 million parking deck expansion to increase parking capacity for travelers.
